Director of Austin Design Works

Austin Design Works is chartered with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and registered with the Landscape Institute (LI). Our family business offers architecture and landscape design services in combination or separately, depending on individual requirements. We have recently been certified as a B Corporation and are committed to ensuring we meet the high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

We enjoy the challenges presented by every stage of a project, from planning and detailed design through to tendering and then on site.

We have a wealth of experience working with historic buildings and a deep knowledge of traditional construction, low-carbon, and natural materials and apply these to both new build and deep retrofit projects using Passivhaus as a guiding principle.

Our approach to architecture places great emphasis on the process of design and having a meaningful understanding of why a project happens. We take on the challenge of resolving people’s needs and aspirations and balance these with the constraints inherent in complex projects. We believe in designing buildings that function on both practical and emotional levels, creating healthy, comfortable, and inspiring spaces.

We are equally comfortable working on architectural and/or landscape schemes for bespoke residential developments; exceptional country houses that meet NPPF79 planning criteria; tailored learning environments; museums and heritage buildings; pubs and clubhouses; and a wide range of other commercial projects. We also breathe new life into existing buildings with our impressive renovations and sensitive conservation works.
